Sugatsune America Inc. Congratulates Team Maryland In Energy Efficient Housing Design At 2017 Solar Decathlon

The debut of innovative housing prototype reACT took place in Denver, CO, attracting thousands of visitors, including industry professionals, homeowners, and designers from around the world.

October 19th, 2017 – Chicago, IL. Sugatsune America Inc., manufacturer of high-quality component hardware, represented one of many sponsors for the University of Maryland this year with their premium Fastmount Panel Mounting System, which was incorporated into the interior walls and ceilings of a unique housing prototype at the 2017 Solar Decathlon.

Taking place in Denver, CO October 5th – 15th, the biennial competition consisted of 10 contests, challenging teams to design and build full-size, solar-powered houses. The University of Maryland Solar Decathlon entry was an inspiring prototype and scored highly in the contest.

“We could never have gotten this far without the many hands pitching in from across campus and the wonderful sponsors who have stepped up to support us in this journey,” said engineering student and student project manager W. Paige Andros. Sugatsune’s innovative Fastmount Panel Mounting System, in addition to being highly modular and easy to install and reconfigure, lends itself to clean, contemporary designs that support the aesthetic of green energy and sustainable living.

Team Maryland took 2nd place with their housing prototype, reACT (Resilient Adaptive Climate Technology), a modular “kit-of-parts” home showcasing an innovative building system designed to adapt and respond to diverse communities and ecosystems. The winner of the competition was based on the team that best blends design excellence and smart energy production with innovation, market potential, and energy and water efficiency.

Sugatsune had plenty of kind words for the University of Maryland Solar Decathlon entry: “On behalf of Sugatsune, we would like to congratulate and thank the hard-working team from the University of Maryland for their dedication and hard work on this impressive housing innovation”, says VP of Sales and Marketing for Sugatsune America, Curtis Nakamura. “We are thrilled to be a part of such an inspiring program that showcases brilliant young minds from around the world.”
